When Royce and Hadrian are hired to steal a sword from an elven tower and save a young woman's village, they are once again at the center of conspiracy. Michael Sullivan exceeds his earlier success with his latest installment of the Riyria Conspiracy. This novel will keep you up to late in the night trying to finish it. Only to be dismayed once you finally finish and have to wait for his third novel. We're finally introduced to some more exotic elements of Riyria's world--elves and a dragon-like killing machine. We also get to see more of Esrahodden. The more I read of him, the more I liked him, though his need to keep everything secret and everyone in the dark was rather frustrating.I liked how Sullivan portrayed the nobles versus the peasants. Here are the peasants all worried about their lives while the monster is sneaking through the night and picking them off one by one, and here come the reality-detached nobles making a game of it. I was ready to kill them all off.We also start to learn that there is something deep and dark hidden beyond everything we know. A deeper plot that will tie all the books together. Sullivan does a great job of bringing it out in increments and keeping you guessing as to what is really going on.
