About book La Valle Degli Eroi (2009)

When I first picked up this book, I was really excited to read it because of the synopsis and because of the title of the book; afterwards, it all went down hill. At the beginning it was nice to know about the history of the valley itself and the families, but, later on for me, the book got worse and worse. I HATED the writing style, I HATED the characteristics of the characters, I didn’t even finish the book because it got boring and horrible for me. I ended skipping most of the it until the last pages to find out what happened, even the ending was horrible. The idea for the book was nice, it was just poorly written. This was the first time that I have ever read a book and I hated it with passion. I even kept complaining to my best friend about it. In this book, the characters and plot blended easily and wonderfully. Halli Sveinsson, the main protagonist, captures the way how kids and teens thrive for a little burst of excitement and adventure in their life, and what happens when it does happen. Aud was also a good female character because she never stayed behind the battle but ran into it, matching Halli's personality. Though in the end scenes, I felt like she was left out a little and focused on Halli most of the time. In the end, the segment with the Trows' impersonations felt out of place and strange with what was going around them. I also felt that the beginning of Halli's journey stretched a little too long, but it was quickly made up with the rest of the story. The plot flowed at a great pace, how the story jumped from one event to the other naturally. The short segments of Svein's story were also a nice touch, giving the reader a short summary of Svein's tale split throughout the book, avoiding giving the reader a huge narrative dump on the subject. The story was told wonderfully, and I recommend this book to any fantasy lovers who loves a hero's tale.
