About book Las Condiciones Para Conseguir Un Novio (Totally Fit, #1) (2012)

I was not impressed with this book. When I got it, I didn't realize it was a novella (my fault). I don't necessarily dislike novellas, but I feel like it's very difficult for most authors to get a fleshed out love story in a short form like a novella - and I feel like Hatler failed in that. She did do some things I liked. I thought the whole "word of the day" thing was amusing. I thought the employees hiding in the closet was amusing. And...yeah, that's about it.The main character (Melanie) was so unremarkable that I forgot her name. I read this book last night and had to go read the blurb again to get her name because I couldn't even remember it. She apparently is in love with love, which I find an interesting concept. However, it was never fully explored. She keeps going out with guys and falling "in love" with them right away (usually scaring them off). Melanie goes to her roommate Patti for help and they create the ridiculous "boyfriend bylaws." Melanie must sign her CAR TITLE over to Patti and if she breaks one of the "bylaws" then Patti will own her car. I... WHAT? I'm sorry! This is beyond stupid. Melanie even makes a point to say that Patti would DEFINITELY take ownership of the car in a heartbeat. This girl (Melanie) is not wealthy, her job is in limbo, she has a paid off car she loves, and she's going to sign it over in some stupid "boyfriend bylaws" contract? These bylaws basically state that Melanie can't do anything with a guy without getting permission from Patti first. She can't give out her number, accept a date, kiss, etc etc.One of Melanie's co-workers is a guy named Matt. She has supposedly had a crush on Matt, but one of her friends told her he's a player so she avoids him like the plague. He also seems to have a little crush on her. They don't really interact much romantically until the very end when Melanie finds out her friend lied about Matt being a player (??). Melanie and Matt then decide they want to date and want to make out, but she's all "OMG my car! Whatever, I'll make out with you and lose my car. TOTALLY WORTH IT!"Matt then reveals that he already got permission from Patti for them to make out. And Patti apparently says "If she was willing to lose the car to kiss you, she's making the right decision."I... what?...okay...So Melanie and Matt make out and now Melanie has found her ONE TRUE LOVE! I thought this girl was in love with love and couldn't figure out the real thing? On her FIRST KISS with this guy, she suddenly knows HE is the real "THE ONE"? I don't know, this book was just bad. No progression of the relationship. No resolution of Melanie's "in love with love" issues other than she apparently stumbles on to the real "the one" just because. We don't know why he's the real "the one" other than the author telling us he is. And roommate apparently is psychic and just knows.Doubt I will pick up anything by this author again. This was a fun little read. I was gifted this ebook in exchange for a review. I would have liked it much more if there hadn't been the expectation that everyone sleeps with people they think they are in love with, married or not. People who do not have a problem with this premise will probably enjoy the story more than I did. It was interesting to read in the story that the main character's parent's relationship influenced how she thought about men and marriage. Also, how our perception of people is affected by what others say about them and changes how we treat that person. I liked it.
