About book Last Wicked Scoundrel (2014)

It's the last book of Feagan's lads and it's Dr. Graves turn! And surprisingly his heroine is the Duchess of Avendale, Winnie from the first book of the series. In that book Catherine, now Countess of Claybourne, knew Winnie's husband was beating her and knew at some point he was going to go overboard and kill her. Catherine originally wanted to hire Claybourne to snuff him out. When he severely attacked her, Catherine, Claybourne and the gang decide to ship him off to a penal colony in the place of a young boy. They never expected to here from him, but now three years later they are beginning to suspect perhaps Avendale has returned for vengeance. Graves was Winnie's physician during her ordeal. She stayed with his at his residence so that he could take care of her. And he slowly began to care for her immensely, even brushing her hair when he thought she wouldn't notice. Now, Winnie is thinking she's going crazy with the little strange things occurring in her residence - the smell of caraway seeds, the trademark scent of Avendale, jewels being placed underneath her pillows, etc. Winnie does not know the truth of Avendale - she thinks he died in a fire. So Graves and Catherine walk on eggshells because they don't know how Winnie will handle the truth once it comes out. It's a short novella which brings up the characters full circle. I always liked the epilogues since we got a bit more of their future lives and children. It's been interesting to read this series before the sequel series involving the children because all of Feagan's kids led such awful and traumatic lives, it's interesting how the children end up and what sort of shenanigans they come into. This one wasn't my favorite of the bunch, but enjoyable nonetheless. Better than the previous books. Even though it was short, it cleared up a loose end from book one. So that was good. Also the plot wasn't toooooo crazy. I mean there were people raising from the dead and all. But considering I have spent the last few days reading this soap opera of a series, this book was very tame plot wise. I would have liked to see more of little Whit though, he was only in like two scenes.

Got to love the doctor. I do wish they hadn't lied to Winnie. I felt bad for her.
