About book Le Mal Absolu (2014)

This short is a departure from the last couple of series entries with a glimpse at actual Wyr life. Claudia Hunter, a forty-something ex Special Forces Major with a slight power of telekinesis stops when she sees what looks like a nearly dead large dog on the side of a darkened desert road. It turn out to be Luis, a Wyr who takes the form of a large dog that has been beaten, shot, hung, drug for miles and left for dead. The corrupt leaders of this small town outside her proposed camp site try to stop Claudia from taking possession of the injured Luis for suspicious reasons. Meanwhile, the kindly veterinarian not only suspects that this most recent patient may be a Wyr but believes there is something suspicious about people not wanting Claudia to take possession. He does what he can to help speed Luis' recovery and provides shelter for Claudia while Luis heals. While I must give kudos for the older woman/younger man dynamic this story was lacking for me. The length and pacing felt as if they were off. It would have served me (the reader), better if it had been a little longer with more background and an additional thread or a shorter novella without so much evident filler. Either way would have sufficed as at the end of the read I felt I was in possession of a lot of good to know stuff but not enough need to know information to make this a relevant to the series read. I liked this alright but it just wasn't up to the other novellas and books I've read in this series. The ending seemed incomplete and very sudden. The storyline is good and goes slightly into the next novella but I'm liking the next, Devil's Gate much more. I think having characters I already know helps a lot. I really liked the woman, Claudia, in this one but never quite understood or connected to Luis, only the attraction that he has for her, not who he is, other than a wolf wyr. I felt like I knew the vet better than the main character.

Do You like book Le Mal Absolu (2014)?

I really liked all the MCs but the end came to abruptly. It leaves a huge question unanswered.
