About book Lilla Stjärna (2010)

This was a bad book. I enjoyed Let the Right One In, and was hoping for another great story from JAL. Not the case with this one. Characters and storylines that just fizzled out and disappeared (actually disappear - one of the main characters is suddenly never heard from again for no particular reason). And the major questions, like really major questions are never answered. Like who and what is Little Star. Really disappointing. Okay, after I finished reading this I just sat there shaking my head. I couldn't believe I had read such a bad book by the author of one of my favorite books (Let Me In). I don't know what happened to JAL here. There are probably a few spoilers coming up.First off, the premise of this book is almost identical to Let Me In. Outcast children, victims of bullying, with an antisocial streak growing in them. And one of the two children has something supernatural going on with her (sound familiar?) and may be a changeling or demon child or something. She befriends and protects the weaker, bullied child. Which leads me to my second point. Nothing in the book is explained or resolved. We never learn exactly what or who Theres is. The only reason I kept forging ahead was to learn who and what Theres was. The opening scene sets a mystery which never gets solved!!! Again, that mystery being what Theres is. That alone made the whole book pointless for me. And what happened to Jerry? Again, the book seemed to revolve around Jerry and then he just disappears from the narrative? There wasn't much redeeming about this book. I can only liken it to reading a very bad Sherlock Holmes story without ever having the case solved. Left me unsatisfied and wondering what the point of the whole book was. With 'Let Me In', I felt an attachment to the characters, and really liked both Eli and Oskar. In this one, I could've cared less about Theres and Teresa (and what's up with their names being so similar?). Although a hint of JAL's better writing ability shone through when it came to some scenes involving Teresa getting bullied - he did evoke a lot of sympathy from me. Other than that, I wish I'd spent my time reading something else. Anything else.
