About book L'inseguitore (2009)

I didn't hate this book, didn't love it ... but the reason I didn't love I cannot pinpoint with any accuracy. It seemed like it would be right up my literary alley--a Special Forces trained assassin with a penchant for solving problems by pulling the trigger--but while I breezed through the pages in just a few days, I was never really engaged. Yes, Hunter was a cool, badass character in the Jack Reacher/Bob Lee Swagger/Mitch Rapp vein, but all the supporting personnel just seemed weakly-written. Also, the villain was more annoying than a pillow made of nettles, and his penchant for talking to himself seemed like a contrivance just to provide exposition to the reader. That said, credit where credit is due, the action really cranks up to white-hot intensity in the last 1/3 of the novel and the climax is a doozy. If I was away on a business trip with a few hours to burn in a hotel room, I would be willing to read another Matt Hilton novel ... but I can't say I'm in any rush to do so. #1 in the Joe Hunter series. Finalist 2004 Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Finalist 2004 Macavity Award for Best First Novel.Joe Hunter, after 14 years in counterterrorism, now spends his time protecting those who need his help. Joe reluctantly agrees to track down his wayward half-brother, who skipped out on his family and headed for America. Joe follows John's trail to the Mojave Desert. Interspersed are musings of Tubal Cain, the most prolific serial murderer in America.

Too many inconsistencies spoils what could have been a good story.
