About book Mistborn Trilogy (2009)

Oh, wow. This is undoubtedly one of the very best series I have ever read. From the beginning I knew it was unusual. I thought I had seen Brandon Sanderson at his best in Rithmatist, but that was just playtime for him. This is a masterpiece. I had a few worries about the end being as spectacular as the beginning, but I shouldn't have. The end was unexpected, but definitely lived up to the rest of the series. FANTASTIC characters- very well developed, so you feel this personal attachment to all of them. I also loved how he challenged the idea that the Lord Ruler was entirely evil. Very well-rounded, solid read. HIGHLY recommended. Seriously. Read this book. NOW!!! This trilogy has 2 fatal flaws that a reader should understand before reading:1) In the third book it is revealed that the characters have no agency. They did not spectacularly overthrow a tyrant god and then save their new fledgling empire. No, everything that they did was the manipulations of the great evil deity. But don't worry, the day is saved because the good deity was a slightly better planer. 2) The author is a Mormon. In light of this the things the trilogy says about religion are, at best, distasteful. For example all of the religions are false except for one tiny secret religion that was real. Also the god king may have been an evil torturing psychopath, but ultimately he knew more and better than anyone and he was really keeping humanity safe. And deep down he really cared for people. bleh. After these two major problems there are numerous minor issues. one star is extremely generous.
