About book Morning's Refrain (2010)

I really wanted to like this more than I did, and I have no good reason why I didn't. Perhaps because as far as Christian romance goes, it was just so . . . flat. Even characters I was interested in from the first book couldn't hold my attention (partly because they get so little screen time). And Dalton's and Phoebe's love story just didn't move me. The only parts that got my attention were the disagreements about the Christian missionary work among the Tlinguits. It is a fascinating topic for any Christian-- what parts of culture are "good" and should be kept, and what parts are incompatible with Christian belief, and how can you be sure you know the difference? But even these discussions eventually taper off into lukewarm mentions, despite the supposedly fierce opinions of Aunt Zerelda. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad read-- not even a truly boring read, as I was interested enough to finish it in two days. But it didn't move me, and in the end I think it will be quickly forgotten. Tracie Peterson is one of my favorite historical fiction writers. She does a wonderful job of combining Christian principles with romance and suspense. This book is the second in her Song of Alaska series, with the first being Dawn's Prelude. Morning's Refrain continues the story of Lydia and Kjell Lindquist, and centers on their son Dalton, and Lydia's sister Evie, both of whom return to their family's original home to try and solve some family mysteries, and put to rest bad memories. Peterson provides details about the Alaskan culture and terrain, with descriptions of the Tlingit tribe and their struggle with missionaries who are trying to remove their cultural identities. Next, I will be reading the third book in the series, Twilight's Serenade, to continue to follow this family's dependence on God and each other to handle tragedies that occur.

Do You like book Morning's Refrain (2010)?

I found Morning's Refrain to be quite amazing. I wish there had been a bit more of Lydia and Kjell but came to love this book just as much. The different characters that were introduced made it interesting. I am curious to see what happens in the next book in the installment as I have read it deals with Britta, Dalton's sister. I have a great love for Alaska so this series has touched my heart. It makes me long for the wilderness that I called home for a short time.
