About book Most Magnificent Thing, The (2014)

Thanks to Goodreads First Read and author Ashley Spires my daughter and I have the opportunity and pleasure of reading, "The Most Magnificent Thing". Thank you! What a fascinatingly cute book! My daughter was smiling the whole time as she read the book to me. Such a creative and imaginative story. A real pleasure for kids. Thanks again Ashley Spires for the opportunity to read, "The Most Magnificent Thing" and the wonderful poster and activity book. This is the perfect text for addressing topics such as problem solving and perseverance. Ashley Spires, "regular girl" surprises even herself to go beyond self-doubt to success and fulfill her need for, "the most magnificent thing." The illustrations created by Ms. Spires capture the significance of the characters and the trialed "most magnificent thing" through the story, featuring them in color juxtaposed by a sketched setting. As a Kindergarten teacher I see many applications from the text. Ms. Spires' way with words helps this text to serve as a pointed mentor text for procedural writing or use of descriptive language. It could also serve as a catalyst for beginning rich dialogues with students about the trials they have experienced in their lives and how they have overcome their desire to quit. Finally, students could read the story a second time and craft their own version from the P.O.V. of the "regular girl's assistant" aka the pug. This is a rich text I hope to add to my classroom library soon!
