About book My Sisters The Saints: A Spiritual Memoir (2012)
I didn't know that I was looking for a book to re-connect me with the saints. I attended mass on Mothers' Day, as I do every Mothers' Day (and almost every Sunday), and received this memoir as a Mothers' Day gift from the parish. What a wonderful gift! Campbell fosters a beautiful connection with female saints that resonates with the challenges of life that so many women face. She does not recount the challenges of motherhood, but rather the challenges of a daughter, a wife and of a woman who longs to become a mother. It is my habit to read good, Catholic books before I go to bed each night. I want to be inspired and uplifted. I chose this book because Colleen Carroll Campbell admires, or came to admire, the same four, holy women that I look up to, Blessed Mother Teresa, Edith Stein (a saint), Saint Therese, and of course, our Blessed Mother. Ms. Campbell is a Catholic woman who has shared some of the same pain I have known, as she dealt with her dear father who had Alzheimer's, and how, as a young college woman, she grew into her faith more deeply. She shares her and her husband's anguish as they go from infertile couple, trying to find doctors who share their values, and the joy of finally becoming pregnant. This is an excellent book for young, single women of all faiths, because she writes of very real issues that women face today, in their choices of career versus wife and marriage. She allows us to see the very real value of being a spiritual woman, even against all odds.
