About book Nietzsche Öldü! Bir Hipopotam Olarak Yeniden Doğdu...: Yaşam Ve Ölümü Felsefespri Olarak Anlamak (2009)

A light book cracking wise and playfully introducing some of the core arguments/philosophies/perspectives about a very heavy subject that we all, ultimately, become *very* familiar with. This book strives to be a death-oriented philosophy 101 course overlaid with the humor of the New Yorker Caption Contest and on that front it succeeds pretty damn well. Structurally it's presented as a conversation between its two authors and their skeptical/regular-Joe neighbor "Daryl" as they talk about the perceptions and fears we all have about dying, and out mechanisms for coping with them. From there they're off, moving from Ernest Becker to Aristotle to Freud to Jung to Sartre and Schopenhauer with ease…and a tolerable amount of "Dad Humor". You'll fly through this in an airport or on a few lunch breaks, you'll be entertained, and maybe you'll think a little more deeply about the fact that you are most assuredly going to croak one day--while chuckling at the same time.P.S. Gotta say that the Viking hardback edition of this book features some damn impressive design. Red text on certain sections that is actually attractive rather than off-putting, seamless incorporation of 30+ actual New Yorker cartoons dealing with death and super-sweet typesetting. Another great, witty, fun, funny, informative book by the authors of "Plato and a Platypus Walk into a Bar". I really enjoy philosophy and learning about it through the format of jokes that are clever and "sick" make it a perfect book for me. Maybe the best way to read this book is aloud with a group of philosophical friends. The discussions would be incredible and it would be such fun!! Love, love love this book!

I skipped through much of this because I'm not up on much philosophy. Some parts were funny.
