About book No Time To Wave Goodbye (2009)

spoiler alert - this book has a happy ending. it isn't the steven stayner story.mitchard left several questions unanswered at the end of the first book, namely what happened to each member of the family? did they have happy endings, at least bearable ones?the comparisons to stayner's story are obvious, parts of this book even take place in california, mitchard gives a much more satisfying answer than the true story did.one v.small quibble, there is a cop named humble and one named switch. i assume the choice of these names mean something, i'm not smart enough to know what it is though and would like an answer.i do love the characters she writes. Loved Deep End of the Ocean. Much of this book seemed forced to me, Stella's kidnapping didn't seem plausible (really a hotel with tons of security)... And the motivations of the kidnapper were unresolved. The ending seemed abrupt as well... More focus on the family dynamic would have made the book better for me. Too much was unbelievable: an Oscar, 2nd kidnapping, etc. and what trained recscurer takes civilians out what them?
