About book Nobody Move (2009)

I enjoyed this book, and powered through it in a sitting. It's a good, fast, short read, light stuff, but entertaining nonetheless. It's definitely not as heady as Tree of Smoke or as surreal as Jesus' Son, but there's plenty of signature Denis Johnson prose through-out. I probably won't read it again, but I appreciate Johnson's ability to write in different genres and styles without losing his voice. A tight, gritty little novel. And a breath of fresh air, at least to my possibly twisted aesthetic, and especially so coming on the heels of my failed attempt to get through The Book Thief (which was to me an overly poetic/loquacious/introspective thing). I'd only read Johnson's "Jesus Son" before this, and I had a tough time with it because the movie, which I saw first & love, was glittering and fleshed out compared to the sparse stories that made up the book. I wasn't aware until I saw Nobody Move on the shelf in the library that he'd written other things, but I'll be adding them to my to-read list.

Do You like book Nobody Move (2009)?

You know a book is bad when it's skinny but it takes forever to read. Just boring.

Really, more a 3.5 stars. Fun, well-written, hardboiled crime novel.
