About book Number Thirteen (2000)

I wasn't to keen on the description of this book but after reading some of Balla Jewel's books I decided to give it a chance and to be honest I wasn't to disappointed I enjoyed the story and couldn't put it down....the only thing that I was a little upset at was that I felt like the ending could have been a little better in the way that it could have given us updates on each girl after they went back see how their lives improved and what ended up happening with William and Number Thirteen... Wow, I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this, I didn't read any reviews - going in with an open mind, I'm so glad I did that. This was heavy shit and completely captivating.William was bullied at school, leaving him disfigured and his belief is that no one would ever see him as anything but ugly. He is now an adult with a lot of success under his belt as the silent partner in his family business.William wants to give back to some young women who are in a no win situation. Individually they don't know each other but they all have terrible backgrounds that have led them to the lives they have now. William brings thirteen girls into his home to give them a chance to turn their lives around. The reality of what the girls are going through is not the above, they are terrified and don't understand what is happening, why are they in this house, is something more sinister going on, what will become of them.As William gets to know these young women, he finds himself drawn to one in particular, number thirteen. The girls are all known by a number only and have no knowledge of the real name or past lives. Thirteen is getting under William's skin and breaking down his walls, for the first time in years he is feeling something for another person. This is a dark but beautiful story of selfless love and acceptance.
