About book O Herdeiro De Sevenwaters (2009)

At first, I wasn't expecting Heir to Sevenwaters to be great. The first two in the series made a place in my heart forever, while the third, while good, didn't have the same effect. Knowing that Clodagh, our main lead here, didn't possess any magical talent like her predecessors made me doubt the potential of the story to be magical enough to move me but turns out this was excellent, much more captivating than Child of Prophecy. The perilous journey of Clodagh and Cathal won my heart. The inability to stand up against higher powers was so real, I nearly forgot this was fiction. But with sheer will, wits and pure love, it was nearly possible. This story was about trust that can tear homes apart, love that binds family and strangers alike, it was about hope in the most hopeless situations and courage in the most impossible situations. There was the magical, fairy tale element to it that I enjoy a lot, but the ordeals and lack of deus ex machinas in all of Marillier's stories make them very realistic. There was romance, yes, but none of it seemed put up or rushed, neither did it take the body of the entire plot. It seemed to flow perfectly well to incorporate into the story flawlessly. All in all, Heir to Sevenwaters is a story I will never forget. I would love to get hard copies of the entire series to flaunt in my shelf one day. Each story is beautiful in its own place. I love a good fantasy series, especially one with several books, repeating characters, and a real feeling for the world the characters inhabit. This series takes place in Ancient Ireland, and as you might expect contains some characters of an otherworldly nature. The main characters however are very human, mostly from one family, and strong, well written and three dimensional. The relationships are believable and inspiring, and the plotlines in (some of) the books are based on old tales- the tie backs to fairy tale elements and the expansion of well known stories is charming.I really enjoy this whole series of books, and am looking forward with anticipation to the release of the 6th book in the series. The 6 books are two trilogies, with characters repeating through the series so you can follow them throughout their lives. Each book has a story arc which is encompassed within the larger story arc of the trilogy, and then the overall story of the two trilogies.
