About book Ocúltame Entre Las Tumbas (2014)

This marvelous gothic novel incorporates vampire legends; assorted Victorian literary figures, such as Christina Rossetti and Algernon Swinburne; and the sootily atmospheric setting of Victorian London in a tale that is bound to delight both horror fans and fans of Victorian historical novels. The writing is vivid and lyrical. The plot is elaborate and inventive. A great read, especially as we approach All Hallow's Eve! Tim Power's secret histories never fail to enthrall, and this book was no exception. Other reviewers recommend reading "The Stress of Her Regard" first, as this book is a sequel of sorts; I disagree. This book stands quite well on its own. The Rossetti family, Polidori, vampires that are more like chthonic forces of nature, neither sparkly nor derivative, all vividly grounded in a Victorian London you can smell. I did take off one star as the narrative hiccups badly right around the beginning of the last chapter, but it does quickly pick up again. All in all a very solid story from Tim Powers.

Better than its prequel. Romping good tale! Want to write a novel like Powers someday. (Ben)

Quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this book -- ghosts, vampires and all!

A mid-Victorian all new take on what vampires are and what they can do.

Didn't finish; stopped at page 82. I found the characters dull and 2d.

I loveTim Powers, but I have to say this is not one of the best works.
