About book Once Tasted (2014)

This is book #2 in the Silver Creek series. Mia Bodell and her Uncle Thomas run a vineyard in Acacia, CA. Reid Knowles has just returned home to the ranch from South Carolina. Mia and Reid avoid each other as much as possible due to an incident that happened in high school that has left Mia feeling hurt and Reid carries a lot of guilt over the situation. Uncle Thomas has announced that he is moving to France and will be leaving Mia to run the vineyard. He has sold a stake in the vineyard to the Knowles family and has asked Reid to be the business adviser and to help Mia. Mia is against this but she relents and allows Reid to help. They develop a relationship of sorts. Reid really likes how his life is and doesn't really want commitment. Mia still believes she is not good enough for Reid. They will have to overcome a lot of misunderstandings if they are to make it. Mia will also have to deal with her cousin Jay who has come to the vineyard wanting money and it will be Reid who will be there to help her when the situation turns ugly.I have not read the first book in this series but I found this one to read just fine as a stand alone novel. I had no trouble getting to know these characters. The author did a great job in describing the setting and the characters. The action was fast paced enough that the story held my attention throughout even though I skipped the love scenes. I loved how the Knowles family stuck together and they were always there for Mia in her time of need. My favorite character in this book was Quinn with her dedication and love of animals. I look forward to reading her story in the next book in this series.I received this book free through LibraryThing Early Reviewers in exchange for my honest review of the book. SPOILERS!!I received this book as a giveaway. The front cover, I have to say, embarrassed me a bit. Even though it embarrassed me I read it and enjoyed it thoroughly.I loved Mia's character. She reminded me a bit of myself. I loved that the author did her homework with the wine bit. I feel like I learned a little about wine through this. I wish it would've gone on just a bit longer so I knew how they would save the farm. That darn Jay got me too. I knew people like him in high school and I really wanted to see them get theirs like Jay got his. Quinn is a very lovable character. She is an animal lover like myself. I am very interested to read the next story with her in it because I really loved her.As other readers have said, I did not read the first in the series. It did not matter whether I did or not because the author did a good job of making it seem like the first of the series and not the second. It is its own story through and through. I really loved the book, but I only gave it 4 stars because I get frustrated with these romances. I feel like they are following an outline of what to do next but with different characters and situations. I really did enjoy it though. I find myself thinking...,"I wonder how Mia's Pinot Noir is coming along." Definitely give this book a chance! You won't regret it!
