About book Overwhelmed (2000)

As a rule I generally don't really like books where infidelity is involved, but the author has peaked my curiosity with this one. The book tells of a tale of a girl who married her first boyfriend and high school sweetheart. After decades of married life. the husband begins to look for more excitement outside of their marriage and finds it in a sex club. He convinces his wife to join him in this adventure and the love triangle begins. When they get to the sex club they meet another man by the name of Eric who has a peaked interest in the wife. The story has a good premise and was well written. While, reading this book I was left with unanswered questions and also was pondering on the motives of some decisions made by the characters. This was an okay read and I can't wait for the next in this series. 3.5 stars. Mixed reviews for this book. Although I think it is better than another previous book I of Marita's I have read, I still found myself not really caring for any of the characters. Part of me thinks it was me though - this is not the sort of book I really like. To start with some low points, I still think the writing in this book is a little immature. If it was not for the very heavy sexual tone I would wonder if it was for adults of teenagers. I also found it too descriptive on certain things. In one of the first few chapters, she is taking her kids to their grandmothers, I found her description with leaving the drive, what they were wearing etc, unnecessary. However, in terms of the story line and plot I actually really liked them. I don't want to compare it to 50 shades of grey, because sexually it is very different experiences. If I was going to stand the books together as which one I prefer though, this book is 100x better. More readable, believable, etc. Overall, although I really dislike Marita's books about the new Zealand gang scene (which again is personal taste) I look forward to reading the sequel to this. As well as reading more of her work. I really am enjoying how each book is improving on previous ones.
