About book Pam Of Babylon (2011)

I was hooked on this book from the first sentence. After that I couldn't put it down and when I realized that this was the first of five books in the series I was ecstatic. I lost all sense of time from that moment on and became so involved in the lives of the characters of this saga that I felt like I knew them all myself. Suzanne Jenkins has a way of wrapping you up in the story and the lives of her characters that they become part of your life and you can feel the pain, joy, hurt, amazement and shock that they all go through page by page. I could smell the salty air of the sea and the fumes of the city as the characters moved back and forth from one place to another. That the story took place in familiar territory for me was a plus. This was a story of a deception and betrayal of the worst kind that could happen to someone, but her journey is one you don't want to miss being on.The thing that saved me when I finished the last sentence of this book is that there were four more coming right after it. I liked this book. I have already read the second book in the four book series. This book has quite a few grammatical errors, but they weren't irritating. The book lagged in the middle, but it picks up. This book sets the foundation for the series. Pam's husband, Jack, dies from a heart attack. In tending to his final affairs, she learns that Jack has a pregnant mistress and has been abusing Pam's younger sister for many years. The situation is odd, especially when these three women bond in close friendship. As the story progresses, Jack's family and Pam and her family focus on doing what is best for the expected baby. Pam immediately starts planning the nursery in her own home for this baby. This is where the story lags. These women are fruitcakes. Fortunately the author is a gifted writer, and I wanted to read all about the fruitcakes. I liked the author's descriptions of New York City and the driving back and forth from Long Island to Manhattan. It was like a sightseeing tour for me. Pam and her sister have each met a man of their own within a few weeks after Jack's death. No more sharing the same man, I do hope. An element of danger is introduced near the end of the book compelling the reader to read the second book of the series. The book is a fast read, and, dear readers, you will love it. I wrote a review of the second book, DON"T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME, on Goodreads and Amazon.Thank you, Ms. Jenkins, for a good read.

I liked where twos book could have gone. The story seemed a little unrealistic.
