About book Paranormal Public (2000)

Charlotte is such a fun character to read about, her little brother Ricky and her have a sweet and endearing relationship. I found this a easy and engaging book to read. The characters were clear and well developed. I loved Sip and especially loved lisabeth, nothing like a dark Mage with a sarcastic sense of humor. Although you knew where the story was headed I loved the journey and look forward to reading the next installment.. :) If I could give this 2.5 stars, I would. Since I couldn't, I erred on the generous side and gave it 3.Introducing Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson (Contains some spoilers)This story line had so much potential... But it fell short. The writing wasn't very cohesive and the reactions of the characters weren't realistic. When Charlotte finds herself unexpectedly waking up in Public, she just accepts everything that happens to her with no question. Well, of course there are all of these Paranormal people! Of course I belong here even though I can't do any magic! Of course you should put me on probation even though I didn't even know I might possibly be able to do magic and have had no training whatsoever, which meant I couldn't perform in front of a crowd on the first day! Of course I should stay here, even though I'm enrolled at an actual, real college, where I get to be an actual, real adult, instead of stuck here at Paranormal Public, which is more of a glorified High School than anything resembling a college!Ridiculous. And the author had a hard time deciding on how she wanted to set things up. She would say things one way and contradict herself later. Take Cale, for instance. She starts out by saying that Charlotte and Cale had only ever spoken twice, and it evolves from that to they had always been friends. Oh, ok. Because that makes sense. Also, it's a little silly that EVERYONE that attends PP has these exotic names (Lisabelle, Sip, Cale, Keller, etc) and then there's the main character, Charlotte. I don't know if this was another attempt on the part of the author to try and make Charlotte stand out from everyone else; another way to make sure we knew she didn't fit in?The book was definitely better towards the end. However, there still isn't any explanation for the motive behind why the villain of this book did the things they did. I'm hoping that we will see a little more flow and cohesion in the next book, along with some better fleshing out of the characters.
