About book Passion Untamed (2009)

I have a really annoying habit to read 1 and 2 star reviews when I´m looking for a book and I did that with this book. I noticed several comments about rape but I did not give it much thought- usually people who scream that there is a rape scene in the book mean that there is a scene where a girl hates (but secretly drools over) a guy, guy runs after the girl, catches her. Girl says no, guy says yes, girl says no again, maybe even pushes the guy away, the guy says something along the lines "I know you want it baby" and then the girl looses the ability to use her own brain, spreads her legs, thinks how well the dude is kissing her and enjoys it. Now lets be honest- when the dude was actually raping her she would fight as long as she could, maybe even cry.. definitely not think about how hot her rapist is. However in this book we have actual rape scenes. We have a guy that is cuffed in a cave fighting his rapist and I do mean fighting, its clear that he did not enjoy it. In the first scene one might argue that in the end( after he trashed and actually bit the chick till she bleed) he enjoyed it but the second scene? Involving blood and a cult-like ritual? Yeah, that was a genuine rape scene. Again one might argue that the girl was forced to do it but for the guy it was still rape. And yes, she did have a choice whether to comply with the demands or not.. as she did later on. So I actually facepalmed when the guy threatened to rape the girl after they went to the Feral House. I mean not that I approved his line of thought but why on earth was that lady so shocked. After I got over all the lead heroine raping the hero, there is another question. Is the gangrape of an 8 year old girl REALLY the best way to make her comply with your demands? I mean by God, yes the villain looked disgusting for it and it was pretty clear he was a sadist. Not that a sadist could not be a pedophile as well but I seriously think that there are better ways to force obedience with a little girl. I mean seriously wtf?!?And after all that I find it hard to believe that Skye was so pure and great. Seriously, constant rapes and beatings+ living in a cave and being forced to dance in blood every day? Yes, this was a paranormal- romance book so its obvious there will be unrealistic parts in it but I think that she would have been psychologically fucked up after all that. The hero of the book was just okay. I did not dislike him or anything but I did not love him either. How on earth does this book have such high ratings and so many good reviews?! If the gender roles were reversed and the guy would have raped the girl in the cave would it have received as many 4 and 5 star reviews or would the audience have reacted differently? Like the last book, I had trouble getting through the first five chapters or so but after that I really enjoyed the book. I am not sure why I am having trouble with the beginnings of these books. I don't know if they are just too slow or that it's sloppy starts or what. It feels like the author knows what she wants to do with the book, knows where she wants it to go but has trouble getting it started. The rest of the book makes up for it but that doesn't negate the issues at the beginning.I did have a few more issues although they kinda started in the last book. They take one look at each other and they have to have sex no matter the cost. 0.o Moving into this book, the heroine basically rapes and/or nearly rapes the hero repeatedly but he says" Oh it's okay because you are a victim too." Really? Or one of the scenes where she mounts him against his will and he says "Oh that will hurt you because you aren't ready. I'll teach you how to ready yourself so you won't get hurt." Um, he is chained to a stone slab and being raped and he decides to help her? That's just dumb. I liked the book but there were points that we just too unbelievable.
