About book Patrick Ness Trilogy Collection: The Knife Of Never Letting Go The Ask And (2000)

Patrick Ness, what have you done to me?You EFFING genius!I followed several book blogs on tumblr and I saw pretty good reviews from this trilogy. As someone beginning to immerse in YA Literature, I expect this book not to challenge the ol' big names like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games or even Percy Jackson. No freakin' way, man.And now let me tell you what's wrong with my other assumptions.1) I thought there's no way Prentisstown would have an epic story. Old men with Noise. No women. It screams boooring!2) I thought Todd would never challenge Peeta Mellark as the king of my heart, ever.3) I would never cry for stupid pets.4) Then third narrator would ever blew my mind.5) What a nuisance Noise is until I read the short story in the 2nd book.6) I thought war was complicated in The Hunger Games and the representation was about accurate.7) That I will hate Davy forever.8) That the love triangle would be awkward.9) The Sky made a mistake.10) That I won't recall the story after I finish it.I wish I could write something like this *sigh* I had mixed feelings about this trilogy. While the story itself had a very interesting premise and characters that I easily became attached to, I felt the author was uneven in his execution. For most of the first book I wasn't even sure if I was going to read the other two because the story was borderline boring. But then I came upon the last 100 pages and I was having trouble putting it down. By the time I got to the end I found myself rushing to the library for the others only to find that the same thing was happening. Books two and three had the same problem, a back and forth almost bland story for more than 50% of the book and the last 100 or so pages left me unable to put it down. I loved Todd, he was so beautifully and wonderfully flawed and the relationship he had with Viola was perfection. I just discovered there is a #0.5 called New World, I may have to pick that up as well, I hope it's more even than the trilogy.
