About book Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer (2009)

I read the original Pinocchio back when I could still read in Italian. This graphic novel continues with that story as Pinocchio battles vampires, with the help of his conveniently pointy nose. I really thought this book kept the spirit of the original book--very dark and twisted humor, actually. If you look at the cover it's hard to believe, but I was literally giggling with anticipation over what they'd have Pinocchio doing next. Great graphic novel! I came across this title when I was looking for Pinocchio books to read at storytime in the library. Obviously, this was not a suitable choice for the preschoolers. Equally as obvious, I needed to read it myself. The graphic novels starts with an injection to read Collodi's original version of Pinocchio, especially if all you know is the Disney version (which I've long forgotten--did I ever even see it?). The authors even include a little comic version of Collodi's version, just to make sure the reader is all caught up, since this story takes places a few years later. A few later, Geppetto has been killed by vampires and vampires have since overrun the village. Pinocchio and his lying nose seem to be the only defense against the undead, yet the townsfolk don't even believe that the vampires exist. It's up to Pinocchio, the cricket, the blue fairy and Mr. Cherry to exterminate the vampires. The book is fun, not amazing, but much as I hoped and expected: off-the-wall in a dark way and a bit sad. The art is good as is the story. Apparently there's a sequel out there, so now I need to look for that too.

Do You like book Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer (2009)?

The beginning was hilarious.... Other than that it was both cool and boring at the same time.

It was one of the funniest and most creative graphic novels I've read by far!
