About book: *Actual rating is a 3.5*I really loved The Forest of Hands and Teeth. It is entirely different from anything I've ever read and I found myself swept up in the intricate world of the Unconsecrated and those who fought to survive.I expected to like this book as much as the first one. Quality-wise, this absolutely lives up to the precedent set in Ryan's first book. The story is equally gripping. More is revealed about the horrific world after the Return. I just didn't really like Gabry as a protagonist. I thought I would grow to like her, but even after finishing the book I still feel luke-warm towards her. If you're a reader who doesn't mind a character with a lot of room to grow, this won't bother you. I didn't identify with Gabry, but that doesn't mean I won't look at reading the next book in the series. Overall, this was a solid addition to the series but it didn't enthrall me like The Forest of Hands and Teeth. Aaaugh! Such a disappointment! The Forest of Hands and Teeth was scary! This one has been Twilight-ified...so just when you think something interesting/scary is going to happen, the heroine turns around and finds herself overwhelmed with the need to kiss someone. And there are two heroes, so of course she is constantly tossing between the two of them, sound familiar? Blech! The dystopian part of this and the link to the first book work okay, but I could not give a hoot about the characters.

This book has a lot more kitchy teen writing than the first. The story was still intriguing.

Actually it was 4.5 stars. So much better than the forest of hands and teeth.

The protagonists are all nitwits.
