About book Pursuit Of Justice (2010)

PURSUIT OF JUSTICE by DiAnn Mills is the third installment in the Call of Duty series. I am a true fan of Mills’ work, but I must say, PURSUIT OF JUSTICE fell short of my expectations.Special Agent Bella Jordan has a personal stake in finding out who is behind the Spider Rock murders. Feeling her estranged father or the man she’s run from all her life are at the root of the killings, she digs deep to figure out if they are connected to the multiple murders and the threats against her life. Making her job even harder, key suspect Carr Sullivan is an enigma to her, both professionally and personally. Bella’s objectivity is challenged as her feelings for Carr grows. Carr is a man with a checkered past who has supposedly given his life to the Lord. Carr tries to convince Bella he isn’t guilty while fighting his growing attraction for her. Knowing he is being set-up, Carr does what he can to prove his innocence.Though I enjoyed PURSUIT OF JUSTICE, it just didn’t grab me like the other two novels in this series. The first half of the book seemed to drag, even amidst unsolved murders and the unfolding of Bella’s past. I didn’t connect as much with these characters. Maybe the aloof characteristics Mills assigned to the key individuals translated to me not getting personally attached. Though the ending of the book picked up, I won’t be labeling it as one of my favorites. The third book to wrap up the “Call of Duty” series, PURSUIT OF JUSTICE surrounds itself in intrigue and a family controversy that promises to be difficult to untangle.I must admit that I was personally not as impressed with PURSUIT OF JUSTICE as the previous two books in this series. While the book is a normal novel length, I didn’t fly through it on the wings of the suspense. I thought the heroine was kind of flat. She just didn’t have a great deal of dimension and depth to her. I couldn’t really see her growth beyond accepting Christ. The tension between her normal life and the job just wasn’t there. The hero, Carr, was an interesting character and I saw his struggles and identified with them. Though I have never been charged with murder, I understood his anger and desperation. I wasn’t completely disappointed in this book. There was still the suspense and danger angle. Who really committed the crime, etc. So many dead bodies, though! In the previous books I have not minded reading about a woman in a macho type role, it was very well portrayed, this one however, in my humble opinion, was just not carried off to the degree as its preceding titles. This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers for my copy to review.
