This was an amalgam of several styles of Conan Doyle. There were thriller type stories reminiscent of his Poe influences, some stories touching on his interest with spiritualism and a few detective stories along the lines of Sherlock Holmes. The detective stories were well done and some of the Poe-like stories were quite creepy, though some just fell flat with obvious loopholes. Overall 2 stars b/c it isn't his strongest writing, though for those who love Conan Doyle, it would be worth the read to see his different influences - one of which contained a quote they used in Elementary "It is one of the elementary principles of practical reasoning...that when the impossible has been eliminated the residuum however improbable, must contain the truth." - from The Lost Special.
