About book Ruby, Die Jungs Und Die Suche Nach Dem Richtigen (2013)

I liked it, but it was definitely not as good as the previous books in the series. I like that the each book is written in a way that readers can understand even if they have not read the previous book but, because of this, I found myself skipping a lot of lines/sentences/footnotes because I have read the previous books. *spoilers ahead* So Ruby is a senior and, after all of the debacles of of sophomore year as well as the repercussions, she finally has a real-live boyfriend! Yay! I was excited to read about what I believed was going to be a good, stable relationship for Ruby but I was disappointed to find out that the honeymoon phase of this relationship did not last very long & ended quite abruptly. When Noel went off to New York for most of the summer and came back acting all weird and different and totally uncool (which he denied was the case) I was convinced he had cheated on Ruby while he was away and that was definitely not the kind of ending I was hoping for. To my surprise, that was not the reason behind his strange behaviour. Towards the end of the book, I find out that Noel witnessed the death of his friend while in New York and just didn't want to deal with it. Curveball!!! Now I totally understand not wanting to deal with the death of someone close to you especially after you saw them killed right before your eyes. However, I don't understand why Noel would let his fear of the grieving process end his relationship with Ruby when he wanted Ruby to make him happy and make him forget what the loss of his friend. I was so frustrated with Noel because of this I almost forgot he's not a real boy. I mean, after the death of his friend he stopped calling Ruby/ returning her calls/e-mails, he came back expecting her to just make him happy but he had no explanation for falling off the grid on her!! Like he could've at least told her he was going through something he didn't want to talk about and apologized and told her he just needed her to be there for him!! Why are boys so dumb??? Anyways, overall, I felt that a lot of the drama the played out in the novel was completely unnecessary and could have easily been avoided. While reading the previous books I felt a lot of sympathy and empathy towards Ruby but I did not feel that way while reading this book which made it much less enjoyable. If you are a fan of the previous Ruby Oliver books, don't feel obliged to read this one I seriously don't think it's even worth your time. I read books 2-4 of the Ruby Oliver Quartet in a very short amount of time. Thus, it all blends together, making three separate reviews impossible. Instead, I will highlight what I love about this series in totalRuby Oliver is a very fun character. She's full of life, and has an iron will that keeps her going through all of her many troubles, some which she brings on herself, some which are dumped in her lap.--Footnotes! They are the perfect way to capture Ruby's digressive mind. E-reader alert! You might get endnotes, not footnotes. If you read the actual books you will have the joy of actual footnotes right there on the page. The endnotes are annoying to flip back and forth to.--Friendship. Over the course of the four books, Ruby Oliver's friends wax and wane in a very realistic way.--Parents. Her parents are hilarious, both overly intersted in their only daughter and completely self-involved.--Funny sayings. You too will not be able to think about "Reginald," "Pod-robots" and many other Ruby-isms without smirking.--Movie recommendations. Ruby Oliver loves movies and many of her footnotes are lists of movies that fit a particular category.

Perfect if you're looking for an easy and witty read. I enjoyed the footnotes, too!
