About book Run With The Moon (2012)

3.5 stars rounded up. Chris Rose, one of the local vets in the small town of Shilo comes upon Jamie walking into town. He's been badly beaten and on foot for 5 days trying to escape his life. At 22, things have gone from bad to worse for him after he tells his dad he's gay. Jamie is dehydrated, malnourished, bruised, battered and terrified. He accepts a ride from Chris into town and a meal with Chris's brother Cade. As the weather begins to worsen, Chris convinces Jamie to stay the night and he promised to take him into town the next day if that's what he wants. Chris has his work cut out for him getting Jamie to trust him since he's been so mistreated for so long. When Jamie outs himself, Chris confesses that he is gay too and nobody is going to give him any problem in Shilo. Chris is however keeping a much bigger secret than being gay. There are a few angsty moments along the way and Jamie never seems to remain uninjured for very long in this story. He has a lot of bad luck when it comes to keeping himself in one piece! Chris spends a lot of time worrying about and protecting him. Jamie and Chris are a cute couple and they also have some comic moments to balance out the drama that seems to follow Jamie. I enjoyed reading their story :) Just reread this one in preparation for reading the second in the series. Still holds up to four stars for me. Hits a lot of my buttons. I like Jamie's character, young, innocent, sweet, abused, hardworking. Chris was awesomeness, sexy, kind, gentle, strong, caretaker. He didn't push for too much too fast. I really liked that about this story. It took time for the romance to develop. I liked Chris's brothers, they were awesome. Unfortunately, they weren't gay, which was both cool and a bummer. Cool because so often everyone ends up gay, which comes off as unrealistic, but a bummer because they were awesome and I would like to seem them meet their (male) mates. *grin* Maybe I can hope. I have to be honest, Ed seems like a creeper in this book. The next one is about him, wonder how that will go.The only nitpick here, if I had to come up with one, is that the book doesn't really go into the shifting aspect that much. It was cool to read about, but had that part been taken out of the story it wouldn't have really affected anything. So it was neat, but sort of unnecessary. *shrug*
