About book Seducing An Angel (2009)

Oooh, this book kept me on my toes. Witty and entertaining I can't wait to read more books by Mary Balogh in hopes they are all as awesome as this first one that I've read. Sacrificing yourself for the sake of family and friends, a dog, is all something Cassandra does for love. Her 'prey' Stephan turns out to be the hunter in this novel as he goes after trying to win her hand in marriage. A story of pursuit; wonderful, amazing pursuit. Cassandra Paget is rumored by the ton to be an axe murderer. Undaunted by the scandal, she is determined to take on a protector and become some wealthy lord's mistress. After setting her sights on a young, blonde angel of a lord she begin her plotting...Stephen Huxtable, the Earl of Merton, is in no way ready to settle down, although he has his choice of young, beautiful girls just making their debut to choose from. When a daring, brazen red-head deliberately bumps into him at a ball and then seduces him, he finds her offer hard to resist. When he learns of her plight, his generous heart can't help but want to help. Will the young angel be tempted by a devilish seductress? While I didn't immediately like Cassandra in this novel, by the end she had grown on me. The plot is clever, if not a bit predictable. The book is fun, and I admit that I read this first (out of order) so may have had a more favorable impression had I read the others. This is a good book and a fun read, but I was not overly attached to the characters. Stephen put up with quite a lot from Cassandra, and some of it was a bit of a stretch.Hero: 3/5Heroine: 2.5/5Side Characters: 3/5Plot: 3.5/5Overall: 3/5

Review taken from my Blog Post (#80) in February 2011, after borrowing the book from the library.I haven't got much time for saying too much about this one .... actually, not too much to say about it really .... not one of her best - it lacked passion and depth and not up to her usual standard.Another in the Huxtable family series, this time the younger brother Stephen, Earl of Merton and the axe-murdering widow Lady Cassandra Padget. After the mysterious death of her husband, she is cast off without the pension and other provisions that she should have been entitled to, and given to believe that she is lucky that she has not met the hangman's noose. Desperate therefore, and with her old governess and a unmarried mother cook/housekeeper to also care for she sets out to find a Protector, gate crashes a ball and snares Stephen on the first night of trying. That single night alters her whole view on ever giving her self body and soul to another man in marriage, and also sets her on the path to undoing the evil self-doubt that being in an abusive relationship had built up .... all in all a 3 star read.
