Per Zuk, insects provide a simplified model of who we are, and have explanation power into what makes us human. Examples of wasps creating zombies roaches by stinging inside its head, ants displacing the queen from another nest and stealing larvae from yet another host colony to provide slave workers are fascinating. Proves that you don't need a big brain to do big things. Only problem is that the author tends to be long winded in her explanations. Sex on Six Legs is a fascinating look at the world of insects. This book covers not only their reproduction but also communication, social systems and much more. Insects are the most numerous animals on the planet and their variety testifies to that fact. Zuk is obviously a big fan of the insect world and has a lot of knowledge about the studies that have taken place regarding insects. I found this book a lot more interesting than I thought I would. It is a great read, educational and entertaining.
