About book Smoke Gets In Your Eyes: And Other Lessons From The Crematory (2014)

Everyone should read this book. Absolutely everyone. I, like many people, have been both terrified and intrigued by death for a long time. In this book Caitlin describes, no holds barred, her experiences coming to terms with death. While having lots of touching moments and terrifying details, this book manages to have an overall lighthearted tone. There are lots of jokes, and Caitlin Doughty remains, for lack of a better term, death positive. If you are afraid of your own mortality, feel weird about being attracted to the macabre, or ignore the subject altogether, you should read this book. I'm sure I'll read it at least three more times, and I'm recommending it to quite a few friends. I say that the "hype" regarding this book is totally on target. It is "...heartbreaking and hilarious, fascinating and freaky, vivid and morbid."As one review said, you may want to proceed with caution if you qualms about death and how it is handled in our culture. You may have some inkling about mortuary practices but if you're not directly involved in the profession there are details revealed that may well set you off.Highly recommended, but be prepared for things you may not wish to know.

Good read, but I wanted a little more something from it; it felt a little this-and-that.
