About book Sovay / Scholastic Book Fair Edition (2009)

Inviting start, really warped me into Sovay's world. She isn't a sarcastic character which really is good change and her sense of adventure is amazing. But at some parts, the historical background jargon was kind of drag down but something about the way the story flowed kept me reading more. The use of third person narrative was neat and tidy and I always knew who was being described when the viewpoint switched. What I really hated was how there wasn't a main theme Celia Rees focused on, I mean its understandable that a story needs many themes but it kind of frustrated me how everything was so drifty. It was like watching someone adding ingredients to a witch broth, a bit of random romance there and a bit adventure here with a cheeky notoriety here. And don't get me started with the last chapter, the ending was a cliff hanger. Like a fricking cliff-hanger -_-As a whole text I'd take the safe route and rate it 4 stars - not because I'm being generous but because there was still that strange something that kept me reading till the end. But please Celia Rees, you better be writing a sequel because what you wrote CANNOT be classed as an 'ending'.Well cheerios, I'm off to munch on toffee apples! A good book that i enjoyed reading, mostly due to liking books with historical links. I liked the plot in relation to the Revolution and feel i learned from it. The only thing that let it down for me was the number of suitors/love interests which became a little tedious, and the book seemed to end to briefly with a bit of a fairytale ending. Worth a read! I will certainly try other Celia Rees novels now.
