About book Spellfire (2012)

This is the 8th and FINAL book in the series. Final. Finished. No more. Do you know how good that feels? I have about 50 different series that I am at different stages of reading or that I am up-to-date on but the author is still churning out more books for, but I have finally finished one. And it is over - the world is saved, 28000 years until the next doomsday event. FINISHED! This final book was about Rabbit (the crossover) and Myr (the witch) and basically taking the previous 7 books and turning them on their heads in terms of their allegiance and the role of the Gods in the final battle for the planet. The last two books were much lighter on lore (THANK-GOD) than the first six books and for that I think I enjoyed them more. And by that, I don't mean that they were light as there was still sufficient lore in terms of the Gods of the sky and the underworld and bringing in not just Mayan mythology but also Egyptian mythology. No, what I mean is that I think the author finally got the balance right between story and lore.I think the fact that my library had this entire series was the reason I kept going. I have a feeling that if they were missing books (which is usually the case), then I would have stopped reading. I never really got into the characters and by the end all of the characters I had read about turned into a bit of a blur where I couldn't really remember their stories. The writing was good. The heavy lore in the first six books made them slowish reads and definitely not edge of your seat stuff which is difficult. Having said that, they were more cerebral than most paranormal/ fantasy romance works in terms of the worlds and gods and Mayan lore so for that they are definitely a unique series of books and I am glad they crossed my path (and that the world is safe at last). Series overall: 4 starsSpellfire, last in series: 3 starsFor seven books we've dealt with Rabbit in all his shades of infamy and, as far as he goes, I wasn't completely disappointed. He and Myr were fun characters and they didn't need a whole lot in this one because we've been with them for so long.Anna, on the other hand, deserved better than a throw away coming into her powers/love story. Still I'm glad we got some sort of closure for her.SPOILERS: As for the end solution to the end of the world countdown...well I'm not on it. If it had started earlier than the end of the last book I would've been a lot more into it. Too little, too late.Still a good series.
