About book Strong Mothers, Strong Sons: Lessons Mothers Need To Raise Extraordinary Men (2014)

This book had some great lessons and I hope I remember them all in the coming years. Here are the reasons it didn't get 5 stars:-It's very long, making it hard to remember the first lesson by the time you finish it. I wish there was a master list of the lessons that was repeated a few times so I could remember them all. I did listen to the audiobook, so maybe if I had actually read it I would have been able to reference the chapter list.-The author's beliefs about religion are mentioned a lot and I don't think it's fair to say a strong mother has to believe in the same things the author believes in.-In some cases, I thought extra words were being added just to make the book longer. I would have preferred more concise lessons with powerful examples and less filler. ‘Strong Mothers, Strong Sons’ written by M.D. Meg Meeker is a book that I “accidentally” read, but I'm glad because it is a well-made helpful non-fiction which I can fully recommend to all mothers who embark into the exciting journey of motherhood.Meeker wrote his book as a kind of survival manual for mothers who love their sons indefinitely. Her book of ten chapters on nearly 400 pages full of parenting tips on proper education, love and emotional development, the author begins with some personal stories from her medical career in which she had the opportunity to meet with many parents. Based on their experience she created this book, for which is evident that it was written by a person who knows much about the subject, spending more than twenty years counseling teens and parents, practicing pediatric and adolescent medicine. The relationship between mother and son is sensitive in itself, especially in adolescence, but the author specifically discussed the situation of single-parent families in which their relationship is even more important for the development of young person in an emotionally mature and healthy adult.Meg Meeker, in addition to good practices, unique needs and positive experiences, do not hesitate to talk about the issues and bad things she has experienced, explaining in which upbringing aspects mothers usually make mistakes; she talks about excessive devotion to the children, but in the way that it does not sound as mere enumeration of bad practices, but argumented statements based on extensive experience and medical knowledge. I especially liked the part of the book in which the author says is never too late to mend things in relationships of mothers and their sons, and the importance she gives to the emotions and their expressing that she constantly repeats with a reason.‘Strong Mothers, Strong Sons’ I read by accident because I was attracted with its cover, and then the pages went easily one after another because of the way the book was written - educative, wise and based on experience. Therefore, this wonderful book by Meg Meeker can be recommended to all mothers that inside its covers certainly will be able to find even more than me, in which I’m convinced.
