About book Suspiciously Obedient (2000)

I'm wondering whether I read a different book than other people...Part of the problem is that I didn't realize this was book two in a series, so I started off confused. I added a star to compensate for that mistake (otherwise the book would have gotten a one star). So I'll try to overlook my total disbelief about any sane human being forgetting that there were cameras hidden all over his office. I'll try to ignore the fact that the world is apparently mysteriously obsessed by the sex life of a mid-level business mogul. (The only real-world business men I can think of who get much attention for their personal lives are Richard Branson and Donald Trump, both of whom clearly seek media attention like it's the only source of oxygen to sustain their lives, and both of whom would be pretty gross in a sex tape). Maybe all of these issues were somehow explained in book one?So if I ignore all that, all I really have is a woman getting transferred to Iceland, getting groped by a guy in a bar and then sleeping with a man who casually refers to having "bitchslapped a transsexual" and who is also the best friend of the CEO who can't remember when he's in a room with cameras. The book is stretched out with long chunks of wandering exposition and some 'banter' that makes no sense. And the only reason I can think of for the trip to Iceland is that the author wanted to visit the place herself and needed an excuse for a tax write-off.Overall, this felt like it should have been the middle part of a regular length book - there just didn't seem to be enough there to justify a trilogy, and there certainly wasn't enough back story or cohesiveness in this book to make it work as a standalone. It feels unedited, not for grammar or punctuation but for structure and writing style. I was surprised to learn that this was from an experienced author, but not surprised to learn that it was self-published. After the cliffhanger from the previous book I couldn’t wait to start the second book. But know I have a problem I need Part 3 NOW!!This one is even better than the first one, to start to learn more and more about all characters, the bond between Jeremy and Lydia has funny and steamy parts.Mike thinks he did a good job by sending Jeremy to watch over Lydia, but boy is he in for a threat and I don’t think he is going to like that.Jeremy on the other hand has made a great job of filling the void in Lydia’s life and bedroom, now he understands why Mike was so caught up in his feelings for Lydia. But he wants her for himself. Now Lydia and Jeremy are coming home what will happen if she finds Mike in a new disguise at her family’s campground?
