I liked the girl but have a problem with books that end livelong romances in a week. There was lots of cursing and tupping and all my favorite things. The plot was super far fetched (i mean a Duke with a barmaid who is supposed to be socially acceptable in one week). I did really like the protagonist though. She is very unapologetic, funny,and has the dirtiest mouth of all the romance heroines I've encountered. This was cute. I initially wasn't sure how I would like this, since I wasn't sure of who either Griff or Pauline were. It wasn't like Pauline was one of the Highwood sisters or that Griff was one of Bram's friends. So it seemed a little strange at the onset that this was part of the series when I had no idea who they were.But eventually, things clicked into place. While I'm not sure I would've known who Pauline was without reading Beauty and the Blacksmith, I did remember Griff eventually from the 2nd book in the series.First of all, I just want to say that the plot, like most other romance novels, was outlandish. In the best way possible. It was funny and cute because it was so crazy. Griff is looking for a girl who is the exact opposite of what his mother wants. So he picks Pauline, a poor farmer's daughter and serving girl at a tavern. Improbable? Yes. But hilariously executed.The characters were adorable, as always. Pauline has a mouth on her and isn't afraid to share her opinions (or curse words) with the duchess. She knows who she is and what she wants out of life, and Griff isn't going to mess things up for her. Griff is a tough, emotionless, and debauched duke who gleefully tries to thwart his mother at every turn while maintaining an emotionless facade. So it was interesting to see these two face off against each other.Everything about this story was pretty much what I expected. There weren't any parts that really popped out at me as a shocking twist. Some of the previous books had that, I think. At least, as far as I remember they did. So while this wasn't as surprising as the previous books, I did still enjoy it. I still struggled to put it down when I needed to.
