About book Tempest’s Fury (2012)

I have to say that I didn't enjoy this as much as the earlier books. There was too much focus on the love (lust!) interest between Jane and Anyan and I found myself skipping over some rather purple prose in places. I'm not averse to good sexin' in a book, but it was just too much that ended up being too tedious. The other thing that spoiled it for me a little was the almost travelogue nature of the story in places. Perhaps because I grew up in London, but I found the descriptions of places and modes of travel a bit tedious. It detracted from the pace of the story for me.I enjoyed the book but it's doubtful that I would read it again. Maybe it was because I read books 1-5 one right after another, but I can’t seem to make myself review these individually…they’ve all blurred into one big lump of life and adventure for me. So, this review will be a general review for the series so far. So, I absolutely adore all of the characters showcased in this series. But I’m a character reader and I can forgive nearly anything so long as the characters are well crafted and multi-dimensional. I don’t even have to LIKE the character (as in, someone that I would want to sit down and have a cup of coffee and a donut with) so long as the character makes me FEEL something, and the characters in this series definitely do that. (Despite the fact that I actually rather like all of the characters). One of my favorites being, of course, Blondie. She’s so powerful and self-confident, but in those rare moments when you see some vulnerability from her, it’s just as true to form as her ass-kicking self that you (or, at least I) can’t help but wish you could feed her (she’s way too thin) and hug her and make her laugh. In this series, though, I don’t have to forgive any faults, even though I love the characters enough to go ahead and do that. The plot lines are smoothly developed and flow nicely and although you may not always agree with what happens, you understand why it had to and accept it as part of this world’s reality without the narrative or plot once knocking you out of the fictive dream. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
