About book The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion (2013)

Oh, how can it be that I have never read Fannie Flagg's books before? I got totally lost reading about two families: the Poole's of Point Clear, Alabama (present day) and the Jurdabralinski's of Pulaski, WI (past). If you are a fan of southern humor and angst, this is a perfect book to feed that need!!!! Fannie Flagg created such strong women characters: Sookie, who has a strong soul but has yet to find it; Lenore, who I sometimes saw myself in and there is a New Year's resolution coming out of that insight; Fritzi, who at first I didn't care for but grew to love. I look forward to reading more by this author!!! I wanted something light to read, so I checked out an electronic copy from the library. I quickly found that I was laughing as Snookie dealt with the narcissistic behavior of her mother and the over the top weddings that her daughters have just had. Then Snookie finds out a secret from her past which creates a crisis. While it was something that anyone would find distressing, what she chooses to focus on just makes her seem petty and superficial. I did enjoy the flashback chapters that relate the story of a family during WWII and the way the women stepped up to make a real difference in the fight.Fannie Flagg has an engaging writing style and I want to read "Fried Green Tomatoes" to see if I like it better.
