About book The Avengers, Volume 1 (2011)

I don't usually read comic books. My 6-year old son asked me to read it to him so I decided to read it first to make sure it was okay. I liked the Avenger movie and the other ones like Iron Man so I thought maybe it would be okay, but it really isn't my thing. The time travel bit put me off. Also, I got confused by some of the character history, like the fact that Steve Rogers was standing in the same room as Captain America (wasn't Steve Rogers Captain America?). Having said that, it was an easy read, for my first comic book. I have a feeling my 6-year old son will ask for more. Multiple Avengers titles with Bendis at the helm... this means we get his touch on multiple characters over multiple books, and this is what he does best... snappy dialogue, well paced plots and every character getting their moment to contribute. Unfortunately, and I hate to say this, John Romita JR.'s art just doesn't hold up. There is an old school charm to his layouts and spread panels, but even though I grew up with his art, as well as that of Janson and Palmer on the inks, they just don't have the same impact. I'll definitely keep reading, but the art is just too old fashioned for me.

Do You like book The Avengers, Volume 1 (2011)?

It started out great, then was very clunky and confusing, then became exciting at the very end.
