This was a great read, ever since the second book in the Stone Creek series I've wondered if Gideon and Lydia's story would come to print. It was both funny and endearing and filled with that time's ideals of proper etiquette etc.The only negative comment I have is in the history, in the 2nd Stone Creek Novel (where Gideon and Lydia are first introduced in A Wanted Man), Aunt Nell was Lydia's deceased mother's sister, and in this book, it is said that Aunt Nell was Lydia's late father's sister. A minor error, but still a noticeable one.Four stars for this novel. Gideon, the youngest of the Yarbro brothers thinks he marries Lydia to protect her from the old man who's after her. What he doesn't realize is that the feelings Lydia developed for him as a small child (you'll have to read a previous title in the Stone Creek series for that back story) has also created feelings in him!After elements central to many stories set in the still-wild West--including a mine disaster, a gunfight, the development of a ramshackle ranchhouse into something suitable for a family with four children(!), this story ends as one would hope, with Gideon and Lydia together and expecting the birth of her own first child. A happy sigh of relief after the excitement of those last crises.
