About book The Caxton Private Lending Library & Book Depository (2013)

Free via Kindle Owners' Lending Library. A short fantasy story for bibliophiles, it's tender and touching and worth the read. However, if you have any intention of reading Anna Karenina in the future and have so far managed to avoid knowledge of the ending of the story or of what happens for Anna herself in that novel, best not to read this Kindle Single yet. It assumes awareness of Tolstoy's masterpiece, providing all the information that would be called spoilers in a work that is not a classic. “some strange bibliophilic nightmare”John Connolly is a terrific writer and I love the Charlie Parker series – but I think he saves his best work for these short stories. THE MUSEUM OF LITERARY SOULS is superbly written, wildly imaginative, and at times had me laughing out loud. This short story is for people who love books. The protagonist Mr. Berger is one such book lover – and after a lifetime of social awkwardness in which he’d rather spend time with a good book than work on building his relationship with a female colleague that he’s attracted to, he unexpectedly finds himself retired, financially secure and with all the time in the world to explore books. And that’s when he finds himself ensnared in “some strange bibliophilic nightmare.”Oh it’s not scary, not at all – but it is completely original and well worth reading.
