About book The Curse Girl (2000)

It was kind of a twist on the tale of Beauty and the Beast, but I think it drew to heavily from that well-known Disney story. There were some interesting parts and changes thrown in there, but the execution was sadly lacking, in my opinion. Additionally, it seems a bit far-out to claim that after 4 years the Beast still couldn't figure out anything from the riddle or find a piece of paper in the floorboards. How could he not think of other ways to interpret the word "letter" from the riddle other than just letters of the alphabet? The book also left a few questions unanswered. Does the whole world know about magic, and about what the cursed house is? How did her origami turn into real things? Did she have magic? Was it part of what the curse allowed? Was a short easy read. A pretty good re-telling of Beauty and the beast. The beginning had me hooked with Bee going into the magical house, and my outrage at her father for basically choosing his second wife over his daughter. I think for such a short novel it was a great job. There were some interesting creative differences that made this fresh and kept me interested in it but it just wasn't fascinating enough to give it 4 or 5 stars but I think it deserves 3.5 and I think it's worth reading if you are interested in retellings of fairy tales
