About book The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything (2009)

Some interesting views on education. Shows some of the flaws of conventional schools and testing. Also cool to hear how many well-known people discovered their talents.Just wasn't really a page-turner for me. Always felt like a wee bit of a chore or a means to an end. He is quite funny but his anecdotes and quips come across much better through his TED talk.It was OK to good, which while not necessarily being a ringing endorsement is not a bad thing either in my book. The thesis of the book (sort of): Find your passion and you will be happy with your work. I must say I had a hard time with this book, although I do agree 100% with the thesis. The problem according to me is not that we do not have the opportunity to live our passion (at least not in high social mobility Sweden). The problem is that many do not know what their "passion" is. The author just doesn't write much about how to find our passion but assume that we "just know". I also have the feeling that many examples are cherry-picked. A lot of the statistics presented in the book are spinned in such a way as to strenghen the basic premise. Good try.
