I picked this book up on a random recommendation from a friend. I didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised by solid character building, and an interesting world. The main character does, indeed, have a foul mouth. If this is likely to offend you, this series isn't for you. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it. I appreciated the fact that it's significantly different than most of what I've seen. It does start with the standard "Special boy goes to a special school" plot line, but the special school isn't really what you'd expect, and everything is a lot grittier than one expects from this type of plot line. This book is not--I repeat NOT--for anyone who has issues with bad language and/or the mind-set that goes with it. King Henry Price (no wonder he got in fights at school) is too rough-and-tumble to be Harry Potter and too essentially selfish to be Harry Dresden. And yet this book is somewhere in between the two...if you look waaaay out in left field. Not that this book has no flaws. It's more of a 4.5 stars than 5. The double-flashback approach to the storyline is a little confusing at first, and the book needs a copy-editor to catch mistakes that spell-check can't. But the writing is compelling and the narrator is engaging and likable in spite of himself.
I still haven't finished it...I cannot get into this book at all. I'm gonna give it one more shot.
