About book The Gentleman And The Rogue (2010)

This is the 2nd book I've read by the author and I have to say, the woman has a dirty filthy mind!!! JUST MY KIND OF GAL!!! I really enjoyed Jem and Alan's love story. Two completely different men and two different life experiences, but they found something they'd been looking for in the other. Jem was the joyful street rat (as Alan called him) who was a prostitute, thief, liar, and whatever else he had to do to survive. I loved his personality so much, he just went with the flow, never really got flustered, knew a ton of tacky jokes and stories, and had some interesting often dirty, internal thoughts. Alan was the serious wealthy and sad military captain who felt he had no reason to continue living after some devastating losses and hardships. He was also battling his guilt for the urges that had him attracted to men. The attraction between the two was instantaneous and witnessing them opening to and discovering one another was like being invited to a secret room and watching one hell of a show featuring a couple of sexy English men!! Considering I am not a gay man, I would be interested to see what they thought about how this book approached these men and the sex they shared. I was impressed from what I read, but I am clueless in that arena so my thoughts don't hold much weight. I suggest this book if you like the m/m theme and time pieces to boot, yes, sexy men on horseback, in tight breeches and high boots with waist coats and cravats...yummy! Remember when you were younger and reading was everything? You devoured books and couldn't wait to dive into the next one. Sadly, I haven't felt that way in a while -- that is, until I started The Gentleman and the Rogue. Admittedly, it starts out and gets your attention with a bang (haha), but this book is so much more than the vividly-described and very hot sex scenes between the two male leads. What can I say about Jem, the prostitute Alan recruits at his lowest point, that hasn't already been said in dozens of favorable reviews? He is just delicious on so many levels! I could picture this scamp from the moment he sits in the carriage with Alan. Loved his hair, his courage, his lapses into London slang. I would have enjoyed learning more about his background, even though it doesn't sound like a happy one. These two characters change and grow, and the authors even show, through the last physical encounter in the book, how their relationship has evolved and how each as an individual has evolved. I loved their interactions! I could SEE when Jem wryly tells Alan that he needs to work on his timing when attempting a joke. These characters come alive. And I also enjoyed the secondary plot about Major. I so wanted to find out what happens to this poor girl, another wounded soul.So to make a long review short -- wow. This book made me excited about reading again after a little bit of a drought. I was enthralled and truly sorry when I got to the last page. I'm almost afraid to read another book by this author duo - they've set the bar pretty high - but I will. :) HIGHLY recommended.
