About book The Ghoul Next Door (2014)

I enjoyed the first book in this series, Buried in a Bog, and looked forward to the next installment. It is a delight. She creates her characters so convincingly, from Maura the transplanted Bostonian, to the Irish locals in their wide varieties, to the "bad guys" from the USA, and the obnoxious American looking for a priceless painting. The dialogue captures the Irish brogue well. Well enough that the American expressions are a bit grating on my mental ear.The storyline is great with the interface of old aristocracy, locals, and Americans mixed up in the question of the painting.I particularly enjoyed that assumptions about what the older "lady of the manor" could and could not tolerate were shown to be wrong. Quite refreshing. Loved it! I'm enjoying this series very much. Victoria has written a wonderful heroine who is both likeable and kick ass. In this story she is approached by her ex-boyfriend who asks her for her help with his fiancee's brother. MJ learns very quickly that her feelings for Steven are still unresolved, but with the help of her current boyfriend Heath and her best friend Gilly, they manage to deal with each other. I think MJ will now be able to move on with a lighter heart. In my opinion, this series just keeps getting better and better. Job well done, Victoria! Thank you :-)
