Michael Reeves' book has quickly become one of my favorite and most foundational books. Having a religious background that denies the Trinity, there arise all sorts of inconsistencies and anomalies with the character and actions of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.I picked up this book on a recommendation, but was skeptical. Being an intellectual person, not understanding the Trinity has been a sore spot. But the IVP Academic logo caught my eye. Being an academic publisher, I knew this wouldn't be a poorly supported pastoral "opinion" book. I'm not saying that this book made me understand the Trinity, but the picture of the Triune God that is displayed within the pages of this book makes sense! My mind was blown several times. Examples of the mind-blowing nature of God in Trinity is that the eternal loving of Father to Son is what encouraged the creation of everything, not some need for companionship. Because of this, right behavior is not what God seeks, but for us to emulate and share in the eternal love of God. The eternal nature of God, revealed through the eternal Word is the picture of love.I cannot recommend this book enough. It's not the heaviest hitting theological tome, and it is not flimsy. It is firm and rooted in scripture, that is what God has revealed about himself. This is one I want to re-read regularly. As a Christian, it was so refreshing -- rich with theology but fun to read, and made me, as the title says, delight in the trinity. And it's a brilliant look at the very heart of Christianity. If you want to know what Christianity is all about, read this -- if you're skeptical, read this -- if you go to church, read this -- if you don't, read this! One of the best books I've read.
