About book The Honest Toddler: A Child's Guide To Parenting (2013)
I absolutely loved this book. The premise that it is about improving the parent and not the child was brilliant and the 'teachings' inside it were invaluable. Many of the situations described were ones I had encountered myself and at times I was sure that if my daughter could fully verbalise her thoughts this book would be them.I haven't laughed at a book so much in a long time and am recommending to all of my friends and even the workers at my DD Nursery.Buy it - you won't be disappointed :) This book is a very humorous guide to being the parent of a toddler written from the point of view of a toddler.This is NOT a serious guide to parenting like the "What to Expect. . ." books, but it is also not just a funny book to read. It is extremely comforting reading this book and seeing my own toddler doing all of these various things and realizing that it is all perfectly normal behavior and nothing to stress out about.As an example of what this book is like, the toddler lists various rules for cooking for and feeding a toddler, and lists the many ways that parents usually mess up mealtime. The toddler wants a banana at 3:49, you get a banana, but peel it down too far, so you need another banana, and do not dare take that sticker off, regardless of who paid for the banana, the sticker always belongs to the toddler. At 3:52 you bring banana number 2 to the toddler, who takes one bite and remembers that he does not want a banana after all, and would prefer cereal. Instead of getting upset, you should realize that the toddler has actually given you the gift of two bananas.This book is a great way to laugh at all of the things that often make you want to bang your head against the wall as the parent of a toddler, and to help us remember that this is just the way it has been for generations, and the way it will be for generations to come, so we may as well save our head, and the wall we bang it against, and enjoy the ride.
