About book The House In The Night (2008)

This book is very much so a bedtime book for children. It reminds me a lot of the book “Goodnight Moon”. This book takes the reader on a nighttime journey through different sceneries that depict small amounts of light. With each new addition to the scenery of the book comes something inside of that object that guides the reader through a nighttime adventure with a young child. I really enjoyed the illustration in this book because it is very different than any other illustration I have seen amongst the winners. The illustrations are in all black and white, except for some small details in each illustration that are in a very bright and pretty gold. This gold accent really stands out in the pictures representing the stars and a light. I find the pictures to be very beautiful and I love that they are darker with a touch of color. Overall I was not very impressed with this book. Like previously said, it reminds me a lot of the book "Goodnight Moon" but not as exciting to read. I see this being used as a bedtime story to a young child and that is the only true use I see for this book Swanson, S., & Krommes, B. (2008). The house in the night. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company. “The House in the Night,” is a book about a young child. In the beginning she is offered a key to the house, and then she then takes the reader on a journey through a child’s imagination. With few words, it illustrates a child’s book coming to life. She flies on the back of a bird through the night sky, and then returns to her bedroom to go to bed. This book could be used in the classroom to discuss the power of imagination, and teach concepts of story sequencing. Swanson, S., & Krommes, B. (2008). The House in the Night.
